Sgt. Pepper has been 'roundly praised' for over 40 years, this has been praised for a few weeks. There's a difference for you DhA.

"I said this would be the situation in a number of years."
No you didn't say that about Kanye, you were talking about Pepper. You said this...
"If this was the 60's half you guys would be rating Sgt Peppers a 2 and calling the title pretentious and the songs "not that good" - and then years later use it as an example of how good music was "back in my day"."
The problem for you is that in the 60s I don't think half of the public did rate Sgt Pepper a 2. And nowadays most people don't either. Over time indeed most music if anything gets rated downwards and not upwards because more people tend to feel separated from the musical style which seems distant to them. The best music tends to last longer but the weaker music just fashionable for it's time (the vast majority of music) is forgotten about eventually.

No you just can't say what you said about the Beatles without being called stupid.
Hey guys let's wait half a century then maybe we'll know if something was a perfect album just by way
of its longevity and status.

"Hey guys let's wait half a century then maybe we'll know if something was a perfect album just by way of its longevity and status."
I never quite said that actually. I just said that we have had more time to assess Pepper, which is true and not a stupid thing to say at all. I'm perfectly happy to assess things in the present and not wait 50 years. Some things can just be the flavour of the moment though and we should try and see through that if we can.

Knott loves to INFER.

If we're getting technical, Knott's opinion has never really been relevant here.

FINALY got a copy of this, and it lives up to the hype. I may bump it to a 5 eventually.

wow, featured artist list is impeccable. is that really the album cover?

I'm starting to think "Blame Game" might be the best track here (the actual song, that skit gets old in a few listens).
