It kinda sounds like early 80s Sonic Youth: noise and dissonance are at the service of cryptic lyrics and surreal suspense. It's very post-rocky too, with more buildups than infuriating riffing session. On top of that, it echoes the most minimalist side of the band's music - I guess that's why alt kids didn't vibe. I'd even go as far as to say it's their best post-Goo release.
