press x to doubt
However, I do think revisiting this in 2023 would only result in terrible, terrible things. I'm not sure I can be bothered to put myself through it. Current Demon is a bit more sensitive to overblown excess and godawful brick-walled production, and this has bountiful quantities of both
I'll leave it at 'average' and call that a job (not actually) done for the sake of my own sanity

I think I just resonated with that take with every fibre of my being
There is the good brickwall and the godawful brickwall, and this is definitely the one due for demolition

This is precisely the moment TMV lost it.

this would've been the most sonically offensive album of 2008 if gasshite anthem didn't exist

Well, I guess we can agree on gaslight anthem at least.

I'm gonna be honest, this was never an album I would have considered sounded brickwalled. Can someone explain how that might be?

Sput seems to be the odd one out with TMV, usually Bedlam is ranked lower than Amputechture. But i think it is bettet to, though both need a lot more time to grow than something like Deloused

I agree with the takes on the vox effects. Completely unnecessary, they add nothing of value to the songs and they detract from Cedric's singing

cruel to compare the two extremes of a band's quality spectrum, but still a bullseye
don't think I'll ever find the motivation to hear this bs again

All I can think of when I see this album is the old The Mars Volta shreds video.
"Microphone is oooon. Nothing else... is on. Oooooon. Ooooooooon. Nothing else is oooon."
And it sounds exactly as shitty as the live performance actually was.

amp is a better 'mars volta album' but i do unironically think this is the best of their post theodore stuff, love me some earbleeding chaotic noisey bs tbh. can perfectly understand why people would hate this lol, and in retrospect it completely derailed the band. imo everysong slaps cept tourniquet man, albums only gotten better for me over the years idk.

This is just more fun. Amp is slightly depressing and not in a way that is cathartic, while Bedlam is all out but more loose and song focused

I like Amp's "psychedelic" sound over Bedlam's madness.
