Recently been in a Converge mood and going back to The Saddest Day, I now remember how hard this song goes. I have wasted 2 years not listening to this song lol.

If I could go back to 1999 and see converge perform saddest day that would be sweet, if a gross misuse of a time machine

Why else would you use a time machine?

Meh
Good song for sure, but they’d go on to do much better things imo

Album Rating: 3.5
True, but I'd still say it is at least in my top 15 Converge songs.

I was just listening to a longform interview with Kurt about his studio, recording, Converge, etc. When it comes to old songs like Saddest Day, they don't rehearse them before they play them. He recalled a live show where he went blank on a guitar part that he thought was bass, so Nate was eyeing him like "where's the guitar part?" and Kurt was looking over like "why aren't you playing the bass part?"
It's one of the few old songs they'll still play, iirc. Kurt isn't really into playing a lot of their older songs.

it’s a bummer honestly. Tho I get it, Nate and Ben weren’t in the mix at the time, and they’re practically founding members at this point
But Dead is legit probably in my top 5 converge tracks

Was watching live sets from this era a few days ago. Another one of their best old tunes, though not from this LP, is Downpour.

had this at a 3 but put it on again and its completely unlistenable like the rest of converge

"saddest day" so good
none of the rest of the album lives up to that but goddamn what a banger

yeah this admittedly doesn't blow me away like it once did, but Saddest Day reigns eternally. Prefer almost everything that came after this (up to & inc. AWLWLB anyway)

yah 5/5 track ur tripping. Dead, Farewell Note to This City, and Color Me Blood Red are also top tier imo. Farewell Note (and Dead too really) makes me wish they dabbled more in emo.
