I'll have to relisten and pay attention to the mix. Never remember that bothering me

I remember it most from the t/t but tbh there's probs a strong overlap with how much I hate Adam Jones' guitar sound and general performance here, especially those first hazy sustained chords

The production is definitely one of my biggest problems with the album. The whole thing just sounds so empty and lifeless... I'm constantly aware that I'm hearing a band bash out a record in the studio, and there's no suspension of disbelief. The sense of intrigue and atmosphere from previous Tool albums is severely lacking on this one

it aint easy being empty and lifeless just sayin

I think they were going for a raw sound in this. Not a lot of fluff in this one, 4 instruments for the most part

People forget that a big criticism of 10kD was "there is too much filler"
This album is an answer to that but also expectations are so high it'll never be what millions of people want

I'd be fine with a rawer sound if the band were going back to the style of their more aggressive work like Undertow, but I'd expect more instrumental embellishments for one of their slower and more meditative records like this one

And don't get me wrong, I still enjoy this album. Just pointing out some problems that have tugged at me a bit since it came out

You're not wrong. I think if the band were to actually focus for a few years they could put out a decent follow up to this

Ahh the feeble sheeple are still squabbling over this.
Amazing what superior art can do the common man.

I just reckon if you’ve ever liked Tool you’ll dig this and if you’ve never liked em you won’t like this

>I just reckon if you’ve ever liked Tool you’ll dig this and if you’ve never liked em you won’t like this
isnt that true for most albums and most bands

Yeah you would think that would be the end of it.
But there is clearly still a therapeutic need for some people to deal with this. Only the best art can do that.

I mean this album should unite fans of their whole discog even if you’re not a fan of every release. Maybe that doesn’t make sense either lol
