i still feel black rose is too fucking disjointed to be a masterpiece. it just doesn't work as a 20-minute song, although there definitely are some sweet parts on it

I think if I had listened to this album for the first time today it wouldn't be my favourite. However it was the second album of their's I got into and the first old Opeth record, and it still holds that magic I felt when listening to it for the first time

Yeah man me too. This was the first Opeth album I ever heard back in 99 (old man) and every year since at some point I'll give it a listen and it never fails to disappoint. Songwriting wise it is not perfect, but the feeling I get when listening to it is. This album's creativity set the bar so high when I was younger, and still till this day it is unlike anything else I've ever heard.
