this thing really killed all interest in his music i had

I’m confused by that sentiment considering you have it 4.5’d

on first listen i gave it a 4.5 cause it was powerful. but years later i realized i have not listened to anything hes done since. including older material i liked

Really good album. I’m still pitched between thinking he’s waging a war against songhood in a manner that successfully bolsters his expression of the artlessness, anythinglessness, of death—and thinking that these are just good, beautiful, lightly stunted choons. “Swims”!

mostly same with me @tyler but i still go through phases where i wanna listen to Dawn. that’s his best acoustic stuff by far to me

Ravens is so good. Perfect dark October song.

gah - cannot get into this even a little. Vocals are (I think) supposed to be vulnerable and genuine though I think they are just monotonous, lame, and not particularly well performed. Any of the good heavily emotional bits are shrouded by mountains of cringe.

I like my year end writeup for this album more than a lot of the stuff I was writing back then

Tried this again
Still borderline unlistenable at times

can’t tell if it’s a reflection of my mental state but i rly like this more and more as time goes on. ravens is one of his best ever songs
|

so gooooood ugh i regret all of the “this album wasn’t meant to be heard” rhetoric i probably spread on previous pages

I watched you die in this room, then I gave your clothes away
I'm sorry, I had to - now I'll move...

Like, given what the album is about and the “just need to get this out to help cope” vibe, things like
“ shrouded by mountains of cringe.”
don’t really make much sense to me. Can totally understand not liking it, but God forbid anyone be able to relate to this album and the colossal loss associated with it. Or to feel like it’s cringe to be dealing with the loss of your wife and the mother of your daughter in one of the ways you’ve always expressed yourself.
