The intro to the title track is the best thing this band has recorded since Californication, IMO. Can't deny Fru's contributions to this album, and that drum groove, delightfully simple, tops off the atmosphere perfectly. The melodic vocals later in the track feel so delicate and emotional, as does Anthony's performance.
Man, I'm just so used to being annoyed with Kiedis that I'm thrilled to hear him, for once, focus on the melody, instead of singing about Vaudeville fat-cats or whatever

Wet Sand has maybe the best moment on this album with the final guitar solo coming off Anthony's I DOOOOOOOOO
overall though I think Strip and Cheetah are some of the more heartfelt and legitimately well-written songs they've done, Hard to Concentrate also deserves a mention there
fuck pretty much all the upbeat tracks on this tho

i think especially in michigan is slightly underrated, same goes for hard to concentrate. but this album has insane amounts of filler, disc 2 in particular is very bad for me.

My love for the good songs on this album just overshadow all the filler. This album was a major contributor for getting me into music. Especially in Michigan is one of my favorite songs from this album.

I don't even know how to compare the beauty of RHCP to the funk of RHCP. It's like two different bands I love that I could never put against each other.

Yep me neither. There are times I go for months listening to one style only then after a while I'm into the other.

I don't even know how to compare the beauty of RHCP to the funk of RHCP.
hmm I think the two styles coexist well, especially on this album, because they balance each other out in terms of energy. buuuuuuut i cant say either what unifies them under the "chili peppers" banner, one and the same, other than the fact that the same people made the songs that fall under those two categories. maybe the differing styles are just like two separate bands, as you say.
