New song is def one of their best ever IMO. If the rest of the album is that level it's a 5/5. So tasty. The flow and dynamics are a masterclass, along with the extremely technical playing of course.

Man I'm really not feeling this new album so far. Way too much wankiness and complexity for the sake of complexity. I was hoping they'd follow suit with this album and streamline their sound with more focus on songwriting, the whole thing just sounds random, while take a song like Another Year, probably their simplest song yet it's my favourite because it's focused. I listened to the new song and can't remember a single second of it. I'm not saying they need to make catchy pop songs but to me these new songs sound like random ideas splattered together. I enjoyed the intro sitar type melody but then they went all 'djentydjentdjent weird measures and time signatures" over a simple melody



Also might just be me but the production sounds so thin and tinny to me. The drums especially, sounds like Logic preset drums.

Yeah the song sounded quite muffled to me. And it def sounds complex for the sake of being complex. Seems like Toasting Wasabi has been been heavily influenced by classic fusion, as there isn't much traditional melody on this track.

Yeah I'm hoping the songs are just big growers and take a little more time. Because initially I'm like ehhh I dunno. The stuff is definitely more experimental than anything they've done before, but I'm worried he may have taken it a little too far with the off-beat disjointed/random jazziness and it just gets too weird. Or unfocused, as drummerboy said.

Probably my fave released so far, still doesn't touch a song from this album. New album sounds like it's gonna be like Weightless but even more sterile and bland. The part at 1:40 is cool, actual melody. I like the chugs when used tastefully and not just as a tool for complexity. The outro is completely out of place but whatever.

The new one is my favourite of the 3 so far.

I kinda feel like I'm gonna get a totally different listening experience from this record that I did from any of their previous releases - and it excites me in a way, but until I feel like I understand the first two singles it could just alienate me altogether, and that would suck - I'm quietly hoping for a late AOTY contender...

I really like Brain Dance probably because it sounds like something that could be on Joy of Motion, but the 2 newer singles were pretty bland to me.
