In the name of God is outstanding throughout. That solo collaboration in the middle is captivating.
@TalonsOfFire I knew it's an all-Kevin Moore song, but, hey, he played a major role in the formation
of their sound.

In the name of God is easily top 10 DT songs, possibly top 5

Lol at people comparing DT and PT in terms of song writing and acting like Wilson isn't a terrible lyricist/song writer.

He has put out some terrible songs, natural for someone that productive, but, no, he's not.

Most of Wilson's lyrics are good/decent, some are bad, but his songwriting musically is some of the
best in modern prog

It's puzzling to me that people think Akerfeldt is a better songwriter than Wilson. Literally all Akerfeldt does it cut and paste cool bits and pieces together and hopes it turns out well. This worked 95% of the time from Orchid to Ghost Reveries, but without the riffs and thick atmosphere of the classic era records - some of which are all-time greats - the weaknesses in his writing are beyond apparent because the glue isn't there to hold it together.
Again, this isn't to say that Opeth hasn't put out an impressive string of incredible records. It has, but to argue that its actually impressive from a songwriting perspective is a little silly to me.

Half of Floyd's albums are barely even considered prog, at least musically. They're kind of their own phenomenon like The Beatles

i don't really mean the psych rock era

Akerfeldt's not exactly an amazing song writer but he doesn't make me want to rip my ears off like Wilson.

Agreed with what Underflow said, especially about Orchid and Morningrise. Probably the main reason why I don't understand people who consider those their best albums

Ugh, think you're talking about Anderson there dude.

Did you 2 Tull discog as well, Underflow?
|

Ha, I haven't 2'd anyone's discog, Pleb. I'd say Tull had one of the most interesting, and even best, runs of records from 69 to 79 in rock/prog music.
