yeah so many records have that same hardcore feel and its dull as fuck
i mean if hes just following the bands wishes to get them to sound how they want then fair enough but i cant help but feel as if Kurt himself is largely to blame for so many of said records sounding the fucking same
i mean hardcore can be a pretty repetitive genre anyway but you have to draw the line somewhere

yeah like you expect that sound from converge because that's what they're known for these days. There's a strong possibility that bands want to sound like them especially newer ones because obv chances are that they're looking up to converge as they are pretty much the 'pillar' of this genre these days. The positive for them is the fact that Ballou's name on production will single-handedly make a good portion of people give a listen to the band, but yeah otherwise it pretty much help homogenize a good portion of the genre... and I feel like his production lacks any sort of grit which really doesn't work for bands with a dirty sound like more crusty bands. Here it works really well because the songs are more space-y and epic in scope.
