yea it reeeeally isn’t helped by how EPIC the verses are. honestly thinking i may bump this down since as enthralling as minerva is this as a whole doesn’t really pick up for me until deathblow

quality of the lyrics isn’t a problem so much as the repetition that makes it kinda boring and only further highlights the grating delivery

"Moana is kinda an epilogue, Anniversary's the real closer. That's how I see it, at least"
forgot i made this post but it sure is true
& people getting so "anal" about the chorus of Hexagram is weird to me

Hexagrams is a banger of an opener. Probably one of their most brutal songs. And you get to listen to the very moment when Chino's vocal chords give out, so that's hard af.

Yeah Hexagram is my favorite Deftones opener. One of their best songs. S/t is just brutal period, from the drab, grim tone of Deathblow and Battleaxe, to the brutal Hexagram and When Girls Telephone Boys. The latter may be their heaviest song.

Let's see here: Hexagram is their heaviest opening track, Needles and Pins is catchy, heavy, and sexy in the same song. Minerva is the first single that clearly shows Deftones experimenting with post-rock and shoegaze. Good Morning, Beautiful is a sexy midtempo song reminiscent of a moodier and heavier Cure. Deathblow is the precursor to tracks like Rosemary and Goon Squad. It is quite post-rockish, then When Girls Telephone Boys rips and destroys all of its contemporaries with sophisticated lyricism, demonic screams, and sounds that only a few bands can match in intensity. Battle-Axe is the comedown after When Girls Telephone Boys and it displays a more pessimistic, almost ethereal wave like sound, in comparison to Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan. Lucky You gets a bad reputation for not sounding like the rest of the album, but it is the song that sounds the most like White Pony? Lucky You is sexy and seductive in my opinion, and I feel like Chino experimented further with this sound on Team Sleep and Crosses. Bloody Cape is the best single off the album. Only a handful of other Deftones songs are as good as Bloody Cape in my opinion. The coda ending of the song is the most brutal you will find in the discography besides When Girls Telephone Boys. The Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event is the softest, yet probably the most heartfelt and heartbreaking song they released up to that point. Moana is an ultimate satisfying conclusion yo the severely underrated masterpiece that is Lovers.

SNW was the hardest for me to 5. It was the hardest out of their discography for me to appreciate fully. I am going to give Gore a 5 and hopefully the new album a 5.

I love Gore. I really think it gets a bad rep for sound quality, but I have heard worse sounding new albums. It is Deftones covered in Pink Sludge. It is at times their lightest album and at times their heaviest album. I think it is a shame that this is considered Deftones worst album. If anything, Aderanaline is worse. I also have every Deftones studio album 5'ed except Aderanaline.

"If anything, Aderanaline is worse." I love gore but you guys gotta stop disregarding adrenaline to prove stupid points to compare a bunch of awesome albums (all Deftones). That said my fave track from gore is Phantom Bride.

Adrenaline is the worst tho
I won't even fault it for the sound or production or anything since obv it was their first album. but so much of the shit just sounds unfinished to me, and the band sounds like they have a better idea of where they wanted to go and who they were in comparison to the even earlier shit but it's like any gaps in the knowledge were filled by cringey nu-metal shit
It's only natural that literally everything they released after figuring this out was loads better
