Sigh. After stuff like Tha Block is Hot, when he was releasing the first three installations of his Carter series and certain mixtapes, this was a period in which "ringtone rap" plagued the genre. Usually it was focusing on being catchy more than anything else (which isn't really that bad in itself) but usually these labels would just find these artists that could spit out one popular single then throw them away into obscurity. This is the era in which Nas was saying stuff like "Hip-hop is dead". And the genre was divided between gangsta rap and backpack shit. But Lil Wayne (along with artists like the Dipset crew and Clipse) helped save the genre by appealing to gangsta rap fans and the mainstream while not only pulling it to a less "make more than a single then try to stay as relevant as you can afterwards" attitude to both artists and labels, and having a lot more quality to their rapping and being a lot more witty/vivid/well-rapped than stuff like Yung Berg, Pretty Boy, Mims, etc. And helped unite the fans (though I'd mostly give that to Kanye). Main difference between Weezy stuff like Clipse, Dipset, Jeezy, etc. is that Lil Wayne knew how to stay relevant after he didn't have to continue trying post-2009.

TL;DR: Weezy F. Baby is responsible for the death of hip-hop's darkest era, deal w/ it.

Hell Hath No Fury and We Got it 4 Cheap 2 >>> Lord Willin' and the rest of Clipse's discography and Pusha's solo stuff
Hoping his album this year will be better and bring that hot Clipse shit back.

"gabe you 5'd Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and then you go and 5 Drake and Lil' Wayne? Not cool dude, not cool."
Normally Filosofem >>>> Hvis but that one long track just isn't worth it.
+ I don't think I ever 5'd Drake. One 3.5, two 4s and a 4.5. If Drake keeps up the improvement his next big release will defs be a 5 tho.
"gabe does whatever will get him attention"
This is true.
