Ultimately though, what'll probably happen with American Football is people will eventually forget about the follow up for the most part. Their legacy will be 90% based on that beloved first album.
The same thing goes for ongoing bands - does anybody think that much less of The Rolling Stones because their stuff has sucked for a long time now? No, their legacy was pretty much set by the release of their last classic album.
