I don't take it as a criticism at all; but my taste has always leaned towards the melodic and Heritage (along with Damnation) is by far their least "metal" album...I just hate how there are no legitimate transitions. It makes Heritage feel completely disjointed...even within the songs, they change direction and purpose sometimes upwards of three times in the same track. I'd love that if it was smooth and well executed because it would be so ridiculously progressive, but it's like they couldn't be bothered to think of ways to bridge the gaps in all of their ideas.

As far as non-metal albums go, this beats Heritage and Pale Communion hard.

Pale Communion's good but there's nothing original about it really.

Not really arsed about originality as long as the music is good, PC is very good in that sense so it's all good in the hood.

Yeah I don't care about originality typically, but PC really just seems like a sidestep for Opeth. The music itself is good, but it doesn't really excite me that much tbh.
