let's not belabor it and just understand his point
which was like, something idk. grandiose lexicon confounds me.

But is it really a Jacquibim review without some scrub complaining about his vocabulary?
|

have now actually read the review, and as someone who routinely ignores metal reviews because a) metal and b) syntax and lexis, this is shockingly readable and v tasty in its analysis. Jac done good, stop belabouring the pon
although "self-aware musicianship" - what does this mean in this context? i am confuse

I don't read Jaq reviews after one I read awhile ago. Think it was actually Carly Rae Jepsen but regardless it was not a fun read.

Much better writer than trebor though fwiw.

""self-aware musicianship" - what does this mean in this context?"
The various lines of music are always doing something interesting in relation to each other, than just in isolation. Hope that clears it up a little, as I elaborate a bit afterwards. The original wording was "contrapuntal", then it was "self-referential", but I (get this) thought that resulted in too many syllables for that one clause. Ah well.

Plus there’s not really any significant counterpoint on this album
|
| |
It's definitely there, but not as pronounced as on EiF for sure.
|
| |
Really the only thing about that post that annoys me is the idea these guys keep releasing the same album. If you listen to this and EiF back to back and claim there's no stylistic difference I dunno what to say.
|
| |
Yes that’s pretty stupid. Maybe if you listened to each album one time when they came out and you have a vague recollection of the band’s sound I can understand you being like oh they all sound the same
But to anyone who’s actually listened to them, whether you like them or not they’re obviously a band that has been evolving and changing things up with every album

Even Destroyers is cited as being noticeably more post-metal influenced than the previous two, and that was well before their new melodic direction but w/e

Average for this is absolutely ridiculous, considering they just keep releasing the same album.
Lol. Band's averages are ridiculous because the band releases ridiculously good music? If it's the "same" album then fucking inject it straight into my bloodstream.
