in all honesty I feel like Rated R has more of a kinship with Era Vulgaris; in a way, that one feels to me like R's true follow-up - with Songs & Lullabies being a sort of rawer, rockier detour that ended up being just as definitive to the band as a whole if not moreso

"How can the band QOTSA be less or more of themselves?"

Maybe I didn't explain well or you didn't want to understand me. Bands change and between RatedR and SotD there is a change for me: the third record is way less experimental than their previous efforts. More radio friendly. It's like compare Ride the lighting with Black album...

Someone's in the Wolf is such an underrated cut off that album.

In the Fade = best QOTSA song

I mean, I’m not sure I agree, but I won’t argue. It’s definitely in the conversation. Definitely would make my top 5. My favorite QOTSA song is probably I Appear Missing.

I feel like I'd 5 this if not for Monsters in the Parasol and Quick and to the Pointless. I despise Monsters on this
