even tho it has been said before, the transition from 2,459 Miles to Wendy/Betsy is absolutely amazing, I was just doing some work and didn’t even notice the song change until he started screaming haha

Even though Michael is the most intense song and Julia is the easiest to replay, W&B has become sort of the best of both worlds. It's furious as all hell at the end but it's not disorienting in such a way that I feel the need to catch my breath afterwards. Love it.

W&B honestly shakes me worse than Michael - with Michael, I can get into the ambience in a passive kinda way, whereas W&B is frankly unsettling
SO glad I put off jamming this until I got home - sitting down with the vinyl, crisps, wine and the lyric sheet and listening to it intently for the first time was magical

I wish I had done that tbh, I ran to my PC and blasted it at max volume within 10 seconds of acquiring it and most of it went way over my head. Took probably 5 listens before I really started to understand/appreciate it on multiple levels.

I’m so jealous of all of you with the vinyl already!

replaced Michael and Break with August 6th and Cities and that gives the album a much better ending imo (though I know I'm in the vast minority that doesn't find Michael all that interesting)
Add Bethlehem as an intro of sorts before 9:27 and that's basically all the best material of theirs this year in one smooth listen

okay yeah this album is pretty cool

Haha Sowing, I was so tempted to do that when the Bandcamp stream dropped. It's been weird getting quite firm impressions of every single track from you guys and then hearing it for real - I haven't felt so 'ready' to get to grips with an album since I heard Choirs of the Eye for the first time

god I wish I could see what y'all see in that
I get it's going for brooding, intense noise but it just flows in one ear and out the other. Lyrics are solid but you can't even make them out anyway. I dunno, swing and a miss for me
¯_(ツ)_/¯

I think it's the second best song they've ever made...I get chills every time at the 'your little brother can't paddle anymore' line and the reference to his older sibling Michael Weiss.
PS: the drumming throughout is sick

I feel like switching Julia and 9:27 makes the album flow better.

I actually agree, as I posted a few pages back. Julia ---> 9:27 flows better.

I think the transitions of Julia, 9:27, Hydra work just as well, or even better. And I like having the two more aggressive songs together.

I definitely recommend the original tracklist, but I do have some slightly altered approaches that I use for my own preference:
LP only:
1. Julia (or, ‘Holy to the LORD’ on the Bells of Horses)
2. 9:27a.m., 7/29
3. Another Head for Hydra
4. Flee, Thou Matadors!
5. New Wine, New Skins
6. 2,459 Miles
7. Wendy & Betsy
8. [dormouse sighs]
9. Winter Solstice
10. Tortoises All the Way Down
11. Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore
12. Break on Through (to the Other Side) [pt. Two]
LP&EP combo:
1.) 9:27a.m., 7/29
2.) Julia (or, ‘Holy to the LORD’ on the Bells of Horses)
3.) August 6th
4.) Another Head for Hydra
5.) [dormouse sighs]
6.) Winter Solstice [pick your preferred version]
7.) Dirty Air
8.) Flee, Thou Matadors!
9.) Bethlehem, WV
10.) Tortoises All the Way Down
11.) 2,459 Miles
12.) Wendy & Betsy
13.) New Wine, New Skins
14.) Cities of the Plain
15.) Existential Dread, Six Hours' Time
16.) Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore
17.) Break on Through (to the Other Side) [pt. Two]
18.) Kristy W/ The Sparkling Teeth
