I rate based on how I feel about the album and I give albums with low averages high scores cuz I have bad taste

well you only have 7 ratings so I can't even judge you

Yeah I feel that, but I also know that I'll feel strongly while listening to certain catchy tracks while still knowing it could improve in certain areas/lyrical depth.

I did clear my ratings today yes
But I give albums like Encore a 5 so there ya go

Give or take 0.5, my ratings are the most accurate on the whole of sput.

Usually I just rate based on a) How much I like it & b) Semi-objective perspective. I've ended up loving records that initially I didn't like by giving them a closer look.
Everyone rates differently...who cares, you do you.

I haven't been much of a Brand New fan other than the odd song here and there, much to the occasional chagrin of my fiancee. But even though I'm only halfway through my first listen, there's something markedly different about this offering that I'm thoroughly enjoying here. Perhaps it's Lacey's less throaty vocals, or the musical variety on display, or the way it feels structured like earlier Bright Eyes albums (feel free to disagree with this point, just my opinion), but I like what I'm hearing.

oahmed, I see what you are saying. Their seems to be a lot less structure and a lot more diversity on this release. With that said.. Deja and TDAG had a fair amount of diversity, as well as Daisy AND Daisy had very little structure, so its been done by the band before, just seems to be to a much greater extent this time around. Glad you're enjoying it though!

I'm still not getting it.

Bigpapad, if TDAG is a 4 to you then a 3 for this album isn't all that unreasonable.

Definitely a grower. What an album, I'm really loving it.

Little Johnny Aardvark never hurt
Nobody... Martha friend and Roger too
Tone down a little... sotto voce... some tall order
Given that four minutes seems eternity time
In the bushed up world of waspish Vsigns
A-sides sui-C-side salads of the bad young B-sides
What's the point of digging deeper just to lay
The ghost of Sala Hal-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub?

Sow, funny you mention it because all this album makes me want to do is listen to TDAG again. I might bump it up to a 4.5, love that album.

as much as i love this, i think if desert and no control were cut this would far and away be their best, instead of just being barely ahead of TDAG

Album Rating: 3.0
Desert is sweet, but I totally agree on No Control

Album Rating: 4.5
No Control sounds like a boring 90s song
Desert is fuckin awesome tho

Album Rating: 5.0
Desert is amazing. No control is not that bad, though it is worse than the rest of the album
