Last October, a Greek music site hosted and interviewed Eric Peterson of Testament. At some point, he was asked to give his views on Metallica’s latest single “Moth into Flame”. His insight was really interesting:
“Sounds very promising. Metallica are phenomenal. I have no idea what it’s like to be a millionaire, so I can only assume, but if my life was so awesome I don’t think playing heavy metal would become a priority. I don’t want to sound like an envious or a mean person, but I can’t understand how someone who can afford personal jets and basically, buy anything he wants will do it. Maybe for me, playing heavy metal has always been associated with being youthful and rebellious. From a sociological stand point of view, the true meaning of heavy metal is the hardships you must endure and all those things in life you must fight for. I’m pretty sure Metallica have fought their fights, so welcome back guys”.
I can only agree with Peterson. Fortunes alone can make you or break you. It certainly plays a negative role when it comes to songwriting matters and inspiration. It drains you completely.

cliff yeah but dave? lol

dave would've done this band justice imo......too bad he was a trainwreck to deal with

dave would've had to have taken a back seat to lars and james which was something he didn't want to do, which is the real reason why they booted him. they've always said it was his drinking but that's bullshit. they just wanted a lead guitarist who didn't have so many opinions.
ot: megadave rules but he isn't the songwriter that hetfield and lars are

over the long run, he's been better

megadeth has been the better band overall but i still think metallica has better written songs

goes hand in hand for me.....songwriting wise, peace sells, so far, rust, countdown, youthanasia, even some of the later albums which we've discussed, pretty solid......even with a revolving door of band members, the quality was still there with the exception of a couple hiccups
metallica really hasn't written anything too good in a quarter century now....and to speculate, im willing to bet james hetfield wouldn't have been as successful as Dave has been had he went solo. I don't even need to mention Lars.
Dave Mustaine is a big deal man and I find him superior to each individual member of metallica.....just my opinion

"metallica really hasn't written anything too good in a quarter century"
they haven't made a good album. there's a difference. like paul mccartney is a fucking ace when it comes to songwriting (not that i'm comparing any of these guys to mccartney), but it's not like he's made classic album after classic album any time recently.
i do agree that dave is superior to everyone in the group save for burton but my whole point was that metallica didn't take a huge step back when mustaine got the boot.
