I was just starting to get into punk and metal around then but was still very much acclimated to lighter, more melodic pop and rock fare, so DGD would have probably been the perfect transition band for me. Idk though, I know it's very hard to judge these things, but I feel like even imagining this being music I'm nostalgic for I wouldn't give it anything above a 7/10.

yea ages 16-18ish was a bit of a musical dark age for me if that makes sense, it wasn't really until this time last year that I started getting really back into discovering new stuff again.

Agent I can take you not liking DGD, but answer me one question;
do you like Enter Shikari?

I like some of their work, namely The Mindsweep and bits of their debut. the rest has some pretty good stuff, but I could not stand A Flash Flood of Colour at all when I tried it.

I like some of this band's work too, it's mostly just the Jonny and Tilian eras that are hit-and-miss for me, Kurt's albums are my top two.

All eras are fantastic but Tilian era is superior in my opinion. The only thing letting him down is the production on Acceptance Speech, if the mixing wasn't so flat that album would easily be their best

I went in to AS expecting to dislike it more than this, but that and IG are my top two from Till era, it gave me more of a Tides of Man feeling early on.

There's a ton of moments here that just feel jarring and throw me out of the loop here. It just doesn't sit as well with me. It's like a combination of so many different styles and it's overwhelming to me. ArSe improves on this formula a bit, but even that kind of took a while for me to admit to liking.

I guess I enjoy DGD because they're so all over the place, albums that are sporadic in style tend to grab me more than albums with consistent style, hence Enter Shikari who only have really one album that isn't totally all over the place

Yeah, that makes sense I think. I guess the fact that I prefer bands like Tides of Man, A Lot Like Birds, Shrezzers etc. should show that I do like the groundwork these guys laid but just have a tough time with some of this band's work. I mean, Happiness is my favorite DGD album, and that's the only one without Jon Mess.
