As usual with Deftones records, this is a MASSIVE grower. Such a sinister vibe beneath the beauty on this..

"white pony wouldn't exit if portishead, massive attack, and patton, and shoegaze artists didn't exist...and these are all artists who have mixed those genres before white pony"
All thrash bands took from Diamond Head and the british heavy metal scene whatever, so by that logic Kill em' All is as groundbreaking as White Pony, meaning they aren't groundbreaking at all, am I getting that right?

Who the fuck knows?? WP is critically acclaimed, think we can all agree on that lol

KevinBaecon, as much as I love your username, you have to admit that WP was something refreshing and new for the scene at the time. Of course other artists had messed around with similar sounds, just not to the same effect. It was a jolt to the system first hearing it. I still remember almost crying first time I heard Digital Bath for the first time.
Sorry if I've overlooked something but I could t be arsed going back through the whole thread cos I'd probably want to kill myself etc..

Gore is a fucking nasty song man. Love it

the problem with some of your arguments is that they are emotionally influenced. how you feel when you first heard an album has no bearing on genre influence chronology. "refreshing to a (niche) scene" doesn't mean ground was broken
I think White Pony is a fine album. so just know that I'm not attacking it as a bad one

some of his screams are ok on the album, but the more I listen to the album the more problems I have with it.
Hearts/Wires is legitimately enjoyable though

The distorted bits on Hearts/Wires are so lackluster though. Especially the awkward bits they come in at

Still better than anything else on the album imo

"the problem with some of your arguments is that they are emotionally influenced. how you feel when you first heard an album has no influence on genre influence chronology."
The first time I heard White Pony I would have given it a 2, but it grew on me exponentially. Nothing about this is emotionally influenced. I'm not too fond of Kid A but I can at least admit that it was probably more groundbreaking then White Pony and a lot of my other favorite albums. You are just not making any real points that make me change my view of it that's all. Like when potsy said Chino was the least adaptive singer in alternative music and actually had some very solid points about why, it made me agree with him to an extent.
