My mind is beside itself looking at seasoned users on this thread with their 4.5s even though they know this album deserves the 5 because it’s a milestone in Prog/Metal

I’m not in love with the first 3 songs. For me, the album skyrockets from Erotomania onwards….
|

the Innocence Faded solo is a secret album highlight, but yes this one takes a while to kick into gear

I think first 3 songs are good. Sure CIAW isn’t as strong as the rest but I still enjoy it in the context of the album. 6:00 is a great album opener, Innocence faded is cheese done well

First 3 songs are absolutely fine and don’t bring down the album at all. But yes, it peaks later, and those peaks are the peak of their career

Haha if you guys say so. And Images and Words will always be the highlight of their career. That album doesn’t have any weak moments like this one does.

I love both albums. I&W has a more uplifting vibe while this one is darker and moodier

I&W is arguably more consistent, sure, but this is deeper

I 1000% agree that the depth here is far greater than what they accomplished on Images, not even close from that aspect. A Mind Beside Itself, Mirror, Lifting Shadows, Scarred, and Space Dye take this one to another level.

If you ask me, the heavy hitting Mirror & Lie in the middle is the highlight of this album.

Can't argue there, but I will have to go with Voices and Space Dye.

Lifting Shadows is also extremely underrated

Album is so diverse. And then you’ve got an upbeat song like Innocence Faded mixed in.

The contrast between these two records and the rest of their discography is so astonishing

Yeah the songwriting on Images, Awake, and A Change of Seasons is absolute peak progressive metal in my opinion.

Lifting Shadows is also extremely underrated [2]
Never get tired of that track, such a unique song
@Titan Agreed, those 3 albums have everything that’s good about prog metal
