So then what makes WYWH or DSOTM better? Because it's your opinion?

it's the opinions of millions actually....those 2 records basically top all charts in their respective wheelhouse and for good reason......we're not talking pop charts here either, or music that your mother or sister listened to

of course there are folks who love Animals the best and perhaps Boney will to, it's a phenomenal album, but the other 2 are different level

for the grand prize.....all the marbles...house on the line.....you need to sell Pink Floyd to ears that have never heard it before.....you really going with Animals dude?

99 out of 100 are going with Dark Side or this, no discussion

"nothing touches this and dark side in their discog, as great as animals, the wall, and meddle are"

"it's the opinions of millions actually....those 2 records basically top all charts in their respective wheelhouse and for good reason......we're not talking pop charts here either, or music that your mother or sister listened to"

The Wall sold 23 million by 1999(including both disks as one entity), by comparison Wish You Were Here sold 13 million by 2004.

I mean Titan you literally went from "my opinion is xxxx(which you stated like a fact)" then went to "well it's the opinion of many" then admitted that the albums had more sales than the other albums, thus meaning that the album I'm talking about(Animals) sold less than WYWH and DSOTM, so it's not so much that it's the opinion of "many" more so that the exposure that lead casual listeners to DSOTM and WYWH ended up not listening to animals, and we can pretend that's entirely due to musical quality, and sure some of it is opinion, but it has more to do with singles and impact than anything else.

"and i never said i was referring to album sales now did i?"

"for the grand prize.....all the marbles...house on the line.....you need to sell Pink Floyd to ears that have never heard it before.....you really going with Animals dude?"

Then. You basically said "the wide opinion is that xxx is better" and then admitted you were including the opinions of consumers who never heard follow up/more niche albums.

"how many did animals sell lol?"

But you said that DSOTM AND WYWH were better than the Wall by using sales of casual listeners, completely disregarding that The Wall sold more than WYWH. So now you're just gonna say "Oh no i was just talking about animal"????

I mean you can literally ignore my bolded quote in which you admit your including the opinions of people who just bought DSOTM and their most major works, which has to do with sales and mainstream success, and thus those people never got to form an opinion about albums they never heard, but "sure" I guess you aren't talking about sales lmao

sputnik is the only music website? because every one of them are niche ass forums that the casual listener does not partake in

Also I'm actually not too sure if i'd recommend Ok Computer before In Rainbows. I feel like i'd do that more so to get someone started with their most prolific work than because of it genuinely being the easier album to follow. I mean In Rainbows has All I Need and Videotape, and it's much softer so.

and again I don't really see how DSOTM being the better starting album is a good point. We're talking about the fact that you just shoved aside animals and said 'Yah, i know that gets a lot of praise on music forumns, but i think this is better and it's more popular so don't believe that animals is better'. most people who picked up darkside probably never picked up Animals, or hell even another floyd album potentially. And it's for more reasons than just quality or reception, but again, how is that relevant to someone like boney who already has heard floyd and is on a niche site? Anyone can say "Ya this album is more beloved .... " well yes because MORE PEOPLE HAVE HEARD OF IT.

"Sputnik is the only music website?"

"I used popularity on this niche ass forum, not in general."

"for the grand prize.....all the marbles...house on the line.....you need to sell Pink Floyd to ears that have never heard it before."

I mean you can blame me all you want cause hurr durr it's ALA but you're not making much sense rn tbh. But yeah, pointless i suppose.

cant say im surprised

'most people who picked up darkside probably never picked up Animals, or hell even another floyd album potentially.'

are you sure about that, or is it that they didn't enjoy it as much and opted not to purchase it?

Like seeing as this, DSOTM and Animals are neck to neck average-wise it's hard to really say that one is objectively better than the others

Plus they're all 5s anyway

"are you sure about that, or is it that they didn't enjoy it as much and opted not to purchase it?"

Are you sure about the exact opposite? I mean that's probably true for a few sales, i think like most bands at the same status as floyd though, the most relevant and innovative album will always be the most popular.

"Like seeing as this, DSOTM and Animals are neck to neck average-wise it's hard to really say that one is objectively better than the others"

We're not arguing about that though I mean I don't really care which is "objectively" better, that is arbitrary. I just think it's a little funny to take a divisive catalog and say "check out this album that's almost as beloved as this one but isn't as good cause i said so and other people agree". I like seeing peoples different opinions on floyd.
