the issue i had with both id and common man's collapse was the production and brandon's fairly boring vocals and lack of variety (he really sucked on common man's)

songwriting was great, mowgli is still one of my favorite tracks by them, but i feel like this is their best by a small margin

I'm listening to it right now, and it would be so much better if they didn't shoe-horn the cleans into sections that didn't need them. I'm not done with the album yet though so it could blow my nips away with the next few tracks.

lunatic, maybe youd like to point out where Sumerian intervened in this band's sound, especially when every previous album they've released is deathcore. Lukas can sing, so their musical direction changed in turn. Sumerian, while hosting some awful artists, doesnt intervene in the sound as much as a major label would, case in point After The Burial and AAL their entire careers

Well man, it's undeniable Sumerian has a HUGE input on how all these bands sound - follow-ups of a lot of their bands have been disappointments (Periphery, BoO, this VoM, Structures, Betraying the Martyrs) and mostly because they sacrificed a certain musical proficiency in order to cater to a wider fan-base. While you could argue that it is the case of a band that wants to make some cash bling bling, they're casually all under their roster. It could also be argued that sometimes production values for some of their bands were far from stellar (lack of proper funding? 'commodification' of the sound? don't know)



Not counting shit bands like I see Stars of Asking Alexandria and bla bla, of course

Periphery does what they want, whether you enjoy what they make or not, that much is clear considering their transparency. I'd argue that Structures' most recent record was of a higher quality than their debut (full length), and attribute BoO's disappointment due to their parting with Jason Richardson...I think BtM is all around quite banal, and has always had a very accessible sound. In any case, as you bring up I See Stars, they vastly improved on their most recent full length, and matured significantly - not as dance-floor/cash grab as their others. Bands signed to Sumerian have always defended the label to its fullest, and I personally would attribute accessibility to what the band wants after touring with other bands, gaining an interest in commercial gain...here, I'm seeing a vocalist that Marc saw he could change his style through.

Structures' last disc was so good they had to disband by public demand lol. Yeah agree on BtM, they're also a bunch of pricks (singer is the king of pricks, he's a nobody who believes he's the next Bozeman)



whatever, I just see bands slowly going from interesting to uninteresting in such a short span, I'm not saying the label it's the main culprit but that has had an influence.. eh. ISS just went from doing 1.5 stuff to 2 stuff.



Just to conclude, I'm not saying that accessibility is necessarily a bad thing - it's bad when it paves way to uninspired stuff.
