Just heard a piano-driven cover of Black Hole Sun at the credits of some movie and first I see on sput is this gem of an album bumped way up on top of the list. Definitely spinning this classic again tomorrow.

Rowing is top-tier though and Bones of Birds is really excellent, and some others.

true Cornell's a shadow of his former self vocally, but his performance is good nonetheless and the songwriting is generally stellar. "Bones of Birds," "Taree," "Attrition," and "Black Saturday" make for a fantastic run of songs, and the back half of "Eyelid's Mouth" with the jaw-dropping solo has to be a highlight of Soundgarden's career

But Halfway There, Worse Dreams, and Eyelids Mouth are a pretty bad follow up, Been Away Too Long is also probably one of the worst things they ever did.

first half is meh but the last two minutes or so are godlike



Love "Worse Dreams" too tbh, song has a great feel to it and like "Eyelid's Mouth," the second half takes it to another level, love how heavy it gets in the bridge



"Halfway There" works well enough as a pop-rock song but it feels less like Soundgarden and more like a Cornell solo tune and probably could have been left off the album for that reason

Narrowing King Animal down to highlights is difficult for me, I generally just go with the last 8 songs being the best for the sake of my own convenience, "Halfway There" be damned



But if I were forced to pick... "Bones of Birds," "Taree," "Worse Dreams," "Rowing," and the latter half of "Eyelid's Mouth"
