Do you guys have an recommendations for their other material (standout tracks or just albums)?
|
| |
Shut up slut

Congratulations Decayingmajesty, you have done something none of these guys have so far. You supplied a true recommendation and provided me a means of getting into the band instead of just shitting down my throat that I'm wrong.
Axe to Fall has vocals that sound a bit more refined and mature. That was my biggest issue with this album.

Stick to mid era, man.

I will, thanks. It might even raise my respect for them overall (including this album).

It takes a while to get into them, so it's normal.
I'd suggest to refrain from rating their albums untill you've heard them a few times, while reading the lyrics

FerinusCarnifexVox Jake is definitely an aquired taste, especially on this album. I just don't think he gives a shit and that he just wants to express himself.
Go for Axe to Fall and All We Love We Leave Behind. Axe to fall flows really as well as an album and AWLWLB has stronger individual songs, both have some killer tunes. Give both of 'em a full spin if you want to give this band a chance!

It's pretty hard to rank their albums. YFM is very close to this. ATF rules too because it's just great fun. AWLWLB also rules. NH is a bit weaker. Later albums are in general more refined but JD has more emotional impact.

I tend to agree with Kurt that their older songs have too many riffs and lack structure at times.

so much unbridled passion tho, dude!

Yeah, but it's a bit too unrefined for my taste at times. There are individual songs I love but I prefer their later stuff.
Actually I think I read that when Nate joined the band he said something along the lines of "you can't just pile up a million riffs and call it a song, you actually have to structure this shit" because Kurt is really creative at making riffs but needs editing.
