Listening to bad music and/or music you don't like isn't always a waste of time + if I didn't do this I would have to give up on Tentenko forever, so there's gotta be a line somewhere!

exactly. I'll listen to music i probably won't enjoy because it can remind of why I don't like it/do like different styles, or to see if I can find something to appreciate/grow on me, or on the off chance that I find something I really enjoy unexpectedly

Quite a few albums/artists I couldn't get into at first and later grew to appreciate. Some people are in it just to shit on something, and that's usually pretty obvious when it's happening. Even that can be funny at times... s'all good.

"ah yes, the classic "why u criticize thing u don't like but I do like"
Nah, that's not the angle I took. I don't care if Johnny doesn't like this and I do (I actually don't like it as much as I rated it. More like a 3.5 now). I personally don't want to invest my time into something I know I wouldn't like. Johnny specifically told stories of listening to like, every Tool album and not liking a single one. Did he expect this to be any different? I guess it was a long shot, but I get listening to this out the sheer hype that had been surrounding it all these years.
Here is criticism of album: all the songs on this album are bloated, and sometimes the album feels almost too cold and calculated. It lacks a certain rawness that I wish Tool still had. It sounds too perfect to me at times. I wanted some songs on here that are average length - 4 or 5 min songs. When it first came out I listened to it a lot, to form my thoughts on it. Maybe 10 listens in total. I haven't listened to this in full in...2 years? That's how long it's been out, right?

13 years later? Bro who wouldn't check it out, could've been a complete stylistic overhaul
Damn, and you have it at a 3.5? That's pretty generous

Let me start by saying Johnny is a genius, a nice person and the coolest active member on this site. But immabout to throw some red pills so watch out!
It's just eye rolling that so many innocent, naive young people come here and are proud that they don't get the greatest band the world has ever seen and even go as far as lying to themselves it's like some sort of achievement lol. They're embarrassing themselves and I don't think any Tool fan actually cares? You guys will come around, you might get this wonderful music one day, don't play the edgy role of a Tool hater until then to mask your insecurities!
You reminds me of the people who don't recognize Joanna Newsom as world's top female song artist because they can't handle the "squeaking". Sad!
Open your mind, kill the ego. Tool sound boring if you're in an atheistic/materialistic state of mind (worst state a human can be in), I'll give you that, but that is your problem not the band's. If you only hear their mediocre lyrics, chugging and drop D tuning then you're not listening to them but to your own preconceptions.

I think we can all agree that tempest is a bland unstructured mess tho. If it was 6 minutes long and had better lyrics it'd be great.

Yeah, yeah, the usual "Baseline is a troll" excuse so let's ignore her redpills. Cope hard?
Yes. Just jam Shouso Strip, it's an album of inner peace.

I don t wish Tool to be raw at all. I'm v comfortable with the smoother family Sunday version with this. We're reaching the 40s anyway. I got plenty of raw music to cover my endless thirst of rawness. The album may feel a little redundant at times, but def not bloated.

Fear Inoculum's mildness is a feat. Just imagine wanting to hear 60 year olds scream and fake being energic like in that embarrassing last song - 7empest.

We actually haven't had a decent fanboy like Baseline before.
I wish yall had read this thread from page 1. We transcended all the classic Tool narratives a long time ago.
