I do not understand the such high ratings for this album. It is good and has some of their best post 80s material, aka the god tier closer, but this still falls into their worst habits of repetitive choruses and drawn out songs. Like, the chorus for The Wicker Man is so fucking uninspired.

Is it spicy to say that Maiden's best solos by far are on this album?

The one in The Thin Line Between Love and Hate is godly.

My favorite solos are on Killers.

agree that the choruses are repeated too much, and some songs (Dream of Mirrors) could definitely be shortened, but this album rules. Such great heavy production

Feeling like I really appreciate this album a lot more now that I’ve listened to the Smith/Dickinson/Roy Z records from the late 90s - easy to see how their modern, riffier style influenced this.
Also Silent Planet is a fucking all-timer and I wish they’d play it more (presume it’s to do with Steve and H not being able to reproduce the vocal harmonies live, but still)

Gotta check this one out, haven't yet for some reason. Don't love latter day Maiden, self-editing being a serious issue, but Book of Souls is pretty solid. Too long, although Empire of Clouds is among the best things they've ever done. Anyhoo... gotta check this one.

This one doesn't have the bloat issue that latter-day Maiden suffers from, though Mirrors is close. Every song is amazing imo. A couple of these songs would be regarded as GOAT material if they were on Somewhere in Time or Seventh Son.

I feel like this nests perfectly between the 80s album run and their last few albums if you know what I mean. Perfect buffer.
