I love this album. With that being said, I would love to hear these guys write songs like One or Disposable Heroes. They've been sticking on personal struggles and thats cool, but hetfileds take on more global issues are so fucking poignant. Especially with everything thats going on right now globally, there is so much subject matter for him to explore.

One thing that really elevates the album above a 3 for me is just how chunky and heavy the slow/midtempo riffs are, especially on songs like You Must Burn and Inamorata where the riffs are allowed to linger and ring out. James and Rob basically carry this entire record tbh

Dropping my rating to 2.5 because I just can’t get myself to even attempt to spin this. The songs aren’t bad, but for whatever reason, I can’t listen to it.

I cannot believe how hard Chasing Light goes. It is the band's heaviest since Enter Sandman and at least top 5 since AJFA.

Ngl, I've been in the same boat with this. I keep telling myself I'll come back to it, but then never do

it's interesting that my opinion on this one hasn't changed much. it's still metallica's best this century so far. not sure why people are pretending the title track, "too far gone" and "shadows follow" are bad. if the best stuff on this were combined with the best stuff on hardwired, we'd have a hell of an album.

This still feels so uninspired. Like, why are all the hooks so flat? Why am I having to admit the Kill-Em-All B-Side is the best song?
