heavener reaching #1 on the rym charts this week seems to have brought them a lot of (negative) attention there

not even that big of a fan but i've found myself on there defending them in the comments lol

yeah that was a wild sight to see. apparently heavener reaching #1 on the rym charts was how the band found out what rym was lmfao

Heavener being below Greyview now gives me the same energy as Devil Sold His Soul's best album being their lowest rated on rym

It's a shame their UI is years ahead of this place. It's like new reddit VS old reddit.

I like rym for its database, but its userbase is crapoli. Sput is still supreme

"I find sput to be far more intuitive to use"

same. maybe bc ive been on this site since i was like 14 lmao so im just used to it but i find rym kind of an eyesore. and yea also its community sucks

my biggest sput ui learning curve initially was def the fact that the search bar here only does artists tho lol

yeah and there's nothing worse when you're searching on mobile and it autocorrects at the last second lol

I find RYM's far more detailed, modernized and feature-filled. Plus it actually has a built in dark mode which almost every major social media added years ago. Yeah there's extensions but sometimes they mess other sites up. This site's code feels the exact same as it was when i joined.

butt.

I gave heavener a shot, I know it's technically *good* but just didn't feel like anything new to me. They're definitely in the minutia of good metalcore bands these days but that's also not a high bar. Nothing on that album made me go "wow holy shit"

It's definitely more modern, I just find the UI confusing and ugly

then there's periphery, who is a lot more uneven, so even though the lows are lower (cough cough silhouette) the highs are way higher in my opinion (reptile, wax wings, dracul gras)

Silhouette was one of my favorite things here, brings Nik Mystery vibes. Dracul's a bit weird for me I wasn't sure whether to give it a 3.5 or a 4 but settled on 4. Everything Is Fine is the same way for me.

i def see why the prog crowd doesnt think ia are anything crazy but theres at least a solid 4 songs on heavener that i think are straight up better than anything periphery have ever done, and its only my 3rd fav invent album so they just align more w what i look for (to be expected from someone whos favorite metal band is erra lol). again i only tangentially think theyre comparable tho as periphery are not a metalcore band

Everything Is Fine is 4 minutes of retreading the heavy bits from P4 and then the most unhinged breakdown you'll ever hear if you're not a deathcore aficionado or something.
