@Hans: Honestly, I think the others are more tight and that makes the difference in the full listen (which is ultimately what I base my rating on). It's hard to pinpoint why, even more because I dig the singular tracks. But, to me this album sounds slightly too 'happy' in its sounds, and I'm not the biggest fan of that.

Makes sense then. Maiden are Gods, anyway you slice it.

Total Eclipse wasn't on the original release, so Gangland is the only dud. Piece of Mind has Quest for Fire, Powerslave has Back in the Village etc. I don't know why everyone acts like this is sooo inconsistent basically just because it has the best Maiden songs.

Its not like Gangland is even that bad. I guess when you're as good as Maiden, any song that isn't elite will be panned.

Back in the Village slays, it's probably one of my most played from Powerslave.

Back in the Village riffs and has that great Maiden gallop just fine, the chorus is a bit weak. Still a good song.

Quest for Fire is the only bad thing they recorded up to and including Seventh Son. And I'd easily take Gangland over Back in the Village, though both are perfectly enjoyable.

to tame a land and the duellists are probably maiden's most underrated songs ever

To Tame a Land did take a few more listens compared to their other epics from this era before I heard how good it was.
