Will give them both another try. Definitely don't dislike either, but they're not giving me strong feelings overall.

I just realized The Ocean trajectory very similar to The Contortionist trajectory, telling from these two singles this is falling in line with Language/Clairvoyant with how sparsely the harsh vocal is used, as well as the extensive use of synthesizers and toned down on heaviness ofc.

Kinda liking the new direction, if anything id say they are more influenced by Leprous's with the focus on less heavy/harsh vocals. Jurassic is probably going to be one of their best tracks and im glad they arent trying to retread the same ground
On a conceptual level i think it makes sense for this cycle to shift to a more synth heavy, clean vocals style as its moving on from the primal raw sounds of nature into the clean overly glossy Human side of things. Lyrics from new track make me think that anyway.

oh no don't invoke Leprous, I'd be gutted if the Ocean lost their teeth too

Doubt they will lose their teeth, i think they are A) resting Loics voice a bit more so he doesnt blow it out and B) focusing heavily on their concept rather than the genre and harsh vocals. I fully expect another record thats outside of the Epoch series thats heavy as balls with Loic going black metal

Ever since Pleistocene happened I want this to become a thing so badly.

I saw both Leprous and The Ocean in my city with 6 days in between shows lol. They were both great. The Ocean went absolutely crazy loud though.

i wouldn't be too surprised if they slowly pivoted more and more into purely atmospheric waters. Not sure yet how it will pan out.

Honestly Preboreal is starting to kinda grow on me which I didn't really expect. Obviously it's more laid back and emotionally it feels like longing for something out of reach... idk but I'm starting to enjoy it more and more

Yeah possible.
About the song itself, I'm starting to really like the direction of this album. Obviously way more laid back than anything else so far from them but as always the vibe building is top notch. Slightly reminds me of last tracks off 2nd Precambrian disc in that regard
