"The Spell of Mathematics” is an epic album highlight that combines doomy basslines, breathy vocals and screams, before a mid-section breakdown of finger snaps that you can easily imagine resonating across a festival field or concert hall.
“It’s one of those things that just happened out of nowhere,” Cunningham says. “Our buddy Zach Hill [drummer for Death Grips, Hella and more] happened to be in LA when we were tracking everything, so we all walked up to meet him and had one beer, which led to three and four. He came back to the studio with us. The snaps are our little attempt at a barbershop quartet. It just worked out organically and we have one of the baddest drummers ever just snapping.”
found this on the web, this is absolutely hilarious to me

FI is so uninspired I wouldn't give it more than a 3.
The others are 2.5 at best.

I'm surprised Hill didn't snap in 13/8.

Error through to and including This Link Is Dead is one of their best runs.

"Error through to and including This Link Is Dead is one of their best runs."
Just need to add Radiant City to that. Can't talk on runs but it's my favourite part so far.
Also i agree with whoever said this album flies by.

Yeah Radiant City is really punchy, might consider including that one too. Headless Idk about... It's okay I guess. Genesis, Ceremony and Urantia is such an astonishingly weak opening. I think Ceremony is kind of decent too but it's not one of the album's best and it's sandwiched between 2 really meh tracks. I've really come around to the title track, I just don't think it's a very strong album closer.

" I just don't think it's a very strong album closer." I think the track is very strong, but perhaps not for closing a Deftones album...it grew immensely on me though.

is that the one with the one note thrash riff?

It grew on me a lot too - particularly how Headless transitions to it, but I think it should maybe be the penultimate track, with Pompeji closing out the album. But Idk, Pompeji sits really nicely in the middle and really helps carry the album's momentum with the other songs I mentioned.

Yeah Urantia is just a total throwaway song, not sure what people see in it. It's very slow and the chorus does nothing at all for me.

Urantia kinda rules...on other new I've never managed to kill you...

Ohms is their best closer since Riviere. They didn't put a lot of effort into rubicon, this place is death, and what happened to you, but the new one flows so well within the album and is a huge grower.
