Mark Lanegan is soo good in it

Lanegan's voice is sex, and Homme gives him more grit to roll with than his Screaming Trees jams

Hell yeah. Favorite Lanegan work is Dust though. Such a criminally underrated 90s album.

In the Fade = best QOTSA song

Auto pilot and Better Living Through Chemistry are the best here and maybe top 3 QotsA tracks with You Would Know. The way autopilot fades and BLTC starts is so fucking amazing.

Except it isn't... still there are some cracking cuts on here (which I see have all been mentioned in the last few comments), so I'm gonna give a special mention to Lightning Song - underrated track.

"Album's better than songs for the deaf agreed"
It's not better imo, but it's definitly more QotsAish than songs for the deaf.

I'd say all QOTSA is equally as QOTSA-ish by definition.

^^^
Pretty much.
As soon as Homme's voice comes in on every track its instantly recognisable as to what band it is.
That and those sleazy riffs, can't forget about the sleaze.

Nah, first two albums are different, SftD is awesome but doesn't have the feeling of previous albums.

How can the band QOTSA be less or more of themselves? That's my point. There is no definitive version of the band's sound, let's not pretend the early stuff is more 'them' because it literally makes no sense. Of course you're free to say that's your preferred style, or that they were most comfortable/proficient in that style.

Every album has a slight bit of sleaze though.
Is their guitar tone that's a signature too.

i love Songs for the Deaf but this is for sure better than it
there was something to this record that I feel didn't quite make it over to SftD, the subtlety maybe? it's more of a straight-ahead rock record better taken in individual doses, and god those fuckin' radio skits wear out their welcome after listen 1, lol
