Finally got to give this a listen... lean more towards the naysayers at this early stage. Definitely disappointed with how much here seems recycled. And the songs seemed to lack any real payoff. But here's to hoping that future listens bring me around.

Adam goes so hard on 7empest. Now that everyone's had a few days to digest this, how have opinions changed?

Also, thank you to whoever updated the album art without that horrendous font. Looks so much cooler.

Yess!
2nd best no doubts now. Amazing replay value...iys an awesome close listen...when you think they are repeating a riff or a section, listen closely to the dofferences, and they are many, in a single section..this is amazing.

After about 4/5 listens, I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed by it. It never gets bad or boring for me, but it misses the clear payoffs of emotional moments that the other albums had. Even on 10.000 days, songs like Vicarious, Jambi, The Pod and Rosetta Stoned all had those great soaring moments of catharsis that I find really missing on this. It misses climaxes I guess, which is not helped by the fact that Maynard sings only maybe 20% of the time. Still leaning towards a 4.0 here, but its not close to the others for me yet.

Of course it had to go down for days, right after we FINALLY get new Tool after 13 years! Only place I had to discuss was r/toolband. Was bursting with excitement and had to share somehow, some where.

Agreed about the missing climaxes. The songs noodle around too long. 7empest, on the other hand ... woah.

Funny to read MJK is doing a shitty job lol no screams but seriously, did you actually heard the album? bad singing on FI, invencible, descending, culling voices and 7empest? really?
And I'm glad to see Adam jones takes the lead rol for an album. 7empest is amazing.
Another masterpiece to add to their discography. They are legends.

I can confirm this hasn't made me climax, although I'm yet to make it through the album in full.

I really get what you guys are saying. It really is needed to overcome some expectations and take it as it is. I d say the climax is its beauty, consistenlcy as whole and close listen variances. I ve also read a bunch of revs that match this idea of being probably their 2nd best release, without any such strong highllight as past releases.
It simply has no weak links for an open hearted tool fan, the lenght just somehow flies by, Culling Voices is a crazy example of it...you reach the end of it and think...what 10 minutes?

Loving this album, but why on earth doesn’t Maynard scream (or at least yell?) in Culling Voicea? That songs build up is begging for it, I can’t understand why they didn’t go for it on that track.
