End of the day, Gang of Youth lyrics here = good. That's the only opinion I have that I'm confident in.

Triple post bb

think it also depends on what kind of band you're listening to and the goalposts they've set. like if there's a post-rock song with hella layering and like one minute of vocals then I'm not gonna really care what the lyrics are because they're not at the forefront. whereas if you don't pay attention to Bob Dylan's lyrics you've essentially missed the whole appeal - his music was always just a vehicle for lyric delivery

I definitely see why lyrics in certain genres aren't that important. I don't care much about prog lyrics tbh but the music is usually super great and the vocals are basically just another instrument at points.

"his music was always just a vehicle for lyric delivery"

this is definitely not true, only for a small portion of his songs

yeah even beyond genre distinctions (which definitely matter when considering lyrics) even the dynamics of individual songs matter. If you're gonna do a rambling, poetic delivery where vocals are at the forefront, you better be good. If you've got an good enough pop hook, I don't mind if your lyrics just barely clear the bar of "not insulting the listener's intelligence."

Gang of Youths somehow do rambling poetry AND amazing pop hooks which is part of why this album is a 5

It’s a common pick but Magnolia blew up for a reason, easily the crown jewel of their debut

At live shows Magnolia gets everyone singing along the loudest, and considering GFIL is so full of singalong choruses it's high praise

I had a date and it was nice, but I got dumped for reasons that lie out of my control. Overall it was a good thing imo, it went very smoothly. No hard feelings, just a good time. I'm feeling Let Me Down Easy so much lol.

Yea, these two with Le Symbolique right before are often my go to tracks. Most of the time actually, not depending on the context.

The pandemic sucks. I miss meeting new people irl
