A more comparable thing would be if you had never heard a modest mouse song as a millenial or gen x

@demon I think millennials and at least the younger half of gen x are both qotsa gens. Same for mm

yeah if you're older than Dave Grohl (the ultimate gen x guy) qotsa mightve been a little edgy for you but every Foo Fighters fan bought this album too

I’m a millennial, I think. Sounds like an insult for some reason so I’ll dispute it despite the supposed accuracy. Guessing the wife is gen x then (presuming this predates).

looked it up once, I forget where the boundaries lie… asking you is more fun tho

Exactly. The younger half of gen x were the older siblings making absolute damn sure that us millennials heard modest mouse and queens of the Stone Age.

@demon millennials are generally considered between 25 and 40 now, born in the 80’s to mid 90’s

Idk, I'm 26, almost all my friends are within a few years in either direction, and I'd be surprised if more than a quarter of them knew who QotSA was by name. There's a couple songs I could play that I'd like to believe they'd be like "oh yeah I've heard this before" but they wouldn't know it was this band.

Admittedly, the three quarters of my friends in question have shit taste and don't venture far outside of mainstream hip-hop, pop, and r&b.

On the other hand, my dad is like 52 or something and he loves this band. Not that I chat with many other 52 year olds to have a proper gauge on if this is especially popular in that demographic.

^52 years falls into the younger half of gen x, the portion of your friends that are younger than you are all borderline zoomers so I can forgive them not knowing but they are cutting it close

Well not literally the younger half but I think Kompy put it best if you are Dave grohl age gen x or younger you probably worship this album but if you are too close to boomer it’s probably too edgy

‘demon millennials are generally considered between 25 and 40 now, born in the 80’s to mid 90’s’

yeah that checks out I guess… seems like a wide range and I don’t get why we’re all lumped together, probably why I didn’t feel like it applied to me. A lot of it seemed to be based around technological advancements, which was less pronounced as an older-mid millennial. I remember a time before at-home internet (or even realising it existed tbf) and mobile phones etc, whereas a younger millennial (mid 90s) may not.

There’s probably more to it than that, idk 🤷🏻

It just seems like such an arbitrary period of time. I read the description once and didn’t get it at all, lol

To be fair, I'm like the youngest of millennials and I didn't get a phone (that could connect to the internet) until high school. Some kids my age got them sooner, a few later. Feels like these days you get an iphone for your sixth birthday.

Yep. Well that illustrates why it’s a load of bollocks then. Everyone’s experience is different / it depends on someone’s upbringing / environment etc.

I remember still having one of those old ‘brick phones’ in sixth form (16-18 yo) and got the mickey taken out of me, because by that point my peers had mostly all moved on to flip phones 😂 which is amusing looking back now
