they were influenced by the atmospherics from other genres with wp
it wasn't groundbreaking by the year 2000 for those ideas to comingle with alternative rock even if they weren't lite
a king crimson argument is a terrible one to be had. whatever they're doing is much more nuanced and high brow than alternative rock

funny that you get so used to these guys just being a melodically-dead wall of chords with sad singing that when they use an actual lead it feels wrong and jarring

no you were talking about minor influences and you made a dumb argument so I used an outrageous analogy to show you how dumb it was.
Again, name other bands that sounded like deftones in 2000.

It's not about sounding like deftones. it's about it not being groundbreaking for deftones to add those influences to alt rock because people did it before them you newborn.

The Bends sounds nothing like White Pony, or really any Radiohead album for that matter cmon man.

It's like you cannot read wow

Deftones said that WP was very influenced by Hum's You'd Prefer An Astronaut but even then their nu/alt-metal influences mixed with experimental and shoegaze music was pretty damn original, whether you enjoyed it or not.

Lol instead of making a counter argument you insult my reading skills, thought sputnik was way above this, then again I'm pretty sure you are new here.

You are attempting to change the goal posts of the argument when the argument I started was "it's not groundbreaking to add influences from said genres to alternative rock in the year 2000"
that is the 5th time I have said that now

White Pony is nu metal at it's roots, not alt rock.
I'm sorry that pretty much this whole thread not agreeing with you offends you to the point where you have to keep repeating yourself to try to get your objectively false points across.

I see several passionate deftones fans on sputnik disagreeing with me. that's fine. you do you. everything I've said is consensus
I repeated myself bc it took you a while to understand/read(?) my argument and you kept providing "rebuttals" that weren't applicable to the arguments premise

"everything I've said is consensus"
I'm almost convinced you are a troll lol
I'm not saying you are 100% wrong, I'm just saying if the best (and only as far as I've seen) example of somebody doing White Pony type stuff before White Pony you have is The Bends.............

Anything I list you're just going to say singer doesn't sound like Chino or guitarist doesn't use the same tone and that is the point that continues to be comically misunderstood. The essence of the argument is that genres X and Y were mixed with alt rock and it's derivatives before white pony. white pony wouldn't exit if portishead, massive attack, and patton, and shoegaze artists didn't exist...and these are all artists who have mixed those genres before white pony

Every time I listen to Glory Box, I pretty much am like, 'this could totes be a Deftones song and it invalidates White Pony as an album', agreed
