The last bearable one. Honestly, Clayman and this one are about the same for me as neither are very interesting in the long term.

This, I can see. But Clayman has riffs and hooks for days my man

I think Clayman, while not being as terrible as other albums I consider to be overrated, was one of my biggest disappointments. I tried for a while to really like it but a good portion of it was rather underwhelming.

I mean, probably by a little but still, going from Clayman to this isn't an incomprehensibly large leap to take.

I'll gladly take this over their recent stuff but come on.

Don't discount the highlights on this one though, the standouts here are worthy of any given IF greatest hits compilation imo

It's not anywhere close to being the best in this band's discography, let alone among the best of 2000.

"going from Clayman to this isn't an incomprehensibly large leap to take. "

I guess not, but Clayman still beats the shit out of this.

Here's Clayman's competition:

Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon

The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Down Among the Deadmen

Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element Pt. I

Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite

Spiral Architect - A Sceptic's Universe

Corum - Not Myself

Martyr - Warp Zone

Quicksand Dream - Aelin: A Story About Destiny

Dark Moor - The Hall of Olden Dreams

Kamelot - The Fourth Legacy

The Chasm - Procession to the Infraworld

Quo Vadis - Day into Night

Rhapsody of Fire - Dawn of Victory

This list can go even further. Clayman simply doesn't even come close to touching aspects of the albums listed.

I stated that Clayman isn't even the best of their discography, let alone the among the best of 2000.

Well nobody said it was the best of 2000s or their discog lol, just that it deserves a high ranking among it

"I actually would put it at the top or near the top, so many incredible tracks on there, some of their most memorable and enigmatic riffwriting and songflow."

Yeah, Oracle Moon was among the best melodic death metal had to offer.

Clayman was nice but Jester Race is always my fav. ASOP is actually 2 for me though even though that's a highly unpopular opinion
