I&W is my personal favorite, but yeah Scenes is probably better than Awake, I'd have to re-jam Awake
though

I'm not huge on every song on here, very hard 4 though.
It also just doesn't reach the same highs as those two

Me neither, but as a whole the album has such a cool and unique atmosphere among the other DT stuff

True, plus it has the best ballads they ever did and there's very few embarrassing parts. Which is more than can be said for any of their post 6Deg releases

6DOIT is a hard 4

Yeah Awake and 6Deg are tied for 3rd and probably a 4.25 for me

I'd say 6DOIT is my fourth, yet followed very closely by ADTOE (don't want to get in a debate about ADTOE today though)

ADTOE is kinda comforting & has some amazing songs. Probably my 5th or 6th favorite with
Octavarium/TOT/BC&SL

sums up pretty much my thoughts about ADTOE, I just don't want to argue again about it as, well, I argue about it pretty much every day since it was released.

It needs defenders though cause that album gets way too much shit. It's probably their best since 6Deg tbh, it has four amazing songs, a good ballad, and Lost not forgotten is pretty decent. I like how it lets the other instruments breathe more since Portnoy isn't there to rule over everything like usual

It definitely gets more hate than it deserves, but it is by no means a 4.5. It's consistently good and that's just about it for me. I'd say it's just worse than BC&SL from SC onwards

Its a low 4 for me, just like BC&SL. They certainly improve on SC, but the s/t ended up being pretty disappointing. Despite how enjoyable ADTOE is, they probably should've taken that 5 year hiatus that Portnoy suggested

SC sucked tho

Yeah, being a drummer myself, for sure I preferred Portnoy's drumming, but on SC and BC&SL he had taken too much place in the band imo. I think Rudess once said Portnoy acted like the "Dream Theater police". So yeah, to me his departure was a good thing, and gave the band an opportunity to renew their sound a little. Of course, it's not groundbreaking at all, but it's their most solid stuff since 6DOIT for sure imo. I just thought that if they had taken a pause like Portnoy suggested, they would've probably been back together right now, and their 11th album would be on the way. I wonder what it would have sounded like

It's a low 3, Presence of Enemies and Dark Eternal Night has some awesome parts but also some of the worst singing and lyrics they ever did. First half of Repentance is their best ballad in years but the second half sucks. Ministry is really good but too meandering, and Forsaken, Constant Motion, and Prophets of War are dumb besides the instrumental sections

And I found SC worse than s/t, because it's so generic and formulaic. At least s/t didn't repeat
itself endlessly. Their formula was really overused atm, and they simply made more songs following the
same structures and too safe ideas

s/t was so cheesy and bland and uninspired though. Enigma Machine is probably the only song on there
that doesn't make me roll my eyes in one way or another
|

Prophets of War is just silly. Ministries is the best song on that. s/t is definitely their worst
