Warning play a strain of doom metal that is largely similar to slowcore - the band largely lacks the heavy metal roots of the genre, focus primarly on adding distortion to what are essentially slowcore indie songs in structure, melody and lyricism.
I’ve said before that when played acoustically, the songs from this album bear an uncanny resemblance to bands like Red House Painters and Codeine. It’s pretty undeniable. The same can’t exactly be said of most other doom bands - the only other I can think of is Bell Witch ln their new album, which, in the second half, forgoes all distorted guitars for...slowcore.
I have no idea why people are so keen on denying this. It’s not bad, it’s not wrong. 40 Watt Sun would go on to further expand the band’s take on this style, sure, but it’s not hard to hear here.
