Anybody that knows some records that are in the same vain of this record? I actually listen to very few bands that do the catchy prog metal thing. Dream Theater really doesn't make this kind of progmetal anymore sadly, and i'd love to hear more of the upbeat, albeit cheesy, prog that is this record

Maybe you wanna try Bloom by Caligula's Horse, but they're not very Dream Theater-ish tbh. Great band though, one of my favourites

Circus Maximus - Nine ... and hm, maybe Haken? The Mountain and Affinity?

The solo in Another Day is one of the top 100 moments in the history of music.

@kalk, I know CH, I think In Contact is amazing and the rest is not that exciting.
@RikRoach. I've heard Circus Maximus once and they sounded like a worse version of modern DT to me then, maybe I need to relisten. I regularly listen to Haken though, and I love those guys!
@BigHans Yes, that solo is so fucking good

Nah, that definitely doesn't do Circus Maximus justice. They're more like a mixture of Symphony X, Kamelot and Awake-era Dream Theater. Admittedly with some long-wided instrumental parts (but Haken are also guilty of those), but on Nine in particular they almost completely got rid of them. Very catchy album, even poppy if you want to call it that ... well, like this album in that regard. Not as atmospheric, but a fun listen imo.

Hey Beardude, you might enjoy Fates Warning (Perfect Symmetry, A Pleasant Shade of Gray, both albums with Kevin Moore), Porcupine Tree (Deadwing), OSI (Free, Blood) and Queensryche (Operation Mindcrime). All amazing progressive metal albums.

What's that smell of farting, gives no meaning to an orange, not today or yet tomorrow, but some other dick!
Found this in a YouTube comment section. Pure genius!

Misheard lyrics are always a ball. My favorite is for "The Baying of the Hounds" by Opeth: Best made tacos of the earth. Diabolical beans!

Haken's Affinity is pretty great and it's got that cheesy '80s vibe too.

Voyager is pretty rad too, and has the advantage of having a great vocalist instead of just a passable one like Haken.

Last two records from Voyager are nice, can't say I like the rest

Khallice's pretty decent too. Kinda a mix between Dream Theater, Symphony X, and the more progressive side of Kansas

@kalk: lol, that's not even the best misheard lyric I've seen from this. Check out the bridge to Another Day:
"THROW THEM A RAAAAG; BETTER TO SAAAAAVE THE MENSTRATE, THAN SURRENDER TO THE SEACREST! WHAAAAAAAALE!"

man I just get goosebumps just by thinking about that moment, sounds really wierd but I think that part where the solo comes in is one of my favourite Dream Theater moments. The note Petrucci chooses to start the solo just sounds so damn great

I'm starting to prefer this one over Metropolis
Mostly because it synths way harder
