"and lol rwake is a fucking ridiculous band i bought their debut like 3 years ago and i still don't know how i feel about it"
Silent- Then you need to check out "Voices of Omens." It's an absolute classic.

FTM is actually more wanky than colors or misdirect but i do see what your trying to convey.
@ Chambered: Times of Grace is like Rosetta's Galilean Satellites where there is one ambient and one post metal album u can combine? if so then i definitely have to check that out as im a huge fan of Galilean Satellites.

Silent- their first two albums were, meh, okay. "Voices of Omens" took awhile for me to "get," but it's been on constant rotation since I did.

Sniper01 I 'get' what your saying but... lemme put it this way. Colors is just as much an adventure. I actually do Like Frances The Mute, better than I used to think. However, one thing is clear. Frances is wankier than Colors. "Frances" is not any more brilliant songwriting than Colors in any way, in fact, I actually find MANY comparisons with both albums. To me, Cassandra Gemini is 30 minutes of pure ridiculous bullshit. I like the ambient sections on Frances, but they do get boring, while, On Colors, the buildups are shorter and more concise, and, Colors doesn't have as many ''empty spaces' as Frances. Also, Colors and Frances are similar in their actual musical diversity. "L'Via" integrates a huge latin/spanish vibe into it's Progressive sound, while BTBAM incorporates jazz and softer rock. You can't say that one integration is stupid and another is not, unless one is integrated more fluently, which you will probably say it is on "Frances" but I would disagree. Both are adventures.

BTBAM = mindless wank, FtM = brilliant songwriting that happens to be filled with wank.
It aint mindless. As a musician, I can definitely tell you that as disjointed as Colors is, it's not mindless, there is a lot of theory and reason behind their music. The way connect riffs if very fluent and original, and on Frances, Volta does it almost the same way, except Volta aren't metalcore lol. I guess maybe the 'point' is what you consider to be 'mindless wank' but the flow, diversity and musicianship makes it a classic for me, though I do get why people hate it, as you should get why the similar "Frances the Mute" gets it's hate as well- Volta's best songwriting is on De-Loused, than Bedlam, than Octahedron. Frances the Mute would easily be their best if you take out the closing track and wayyyyy tone down the ambient masturbation, even though some of the ambience is fantastic at times.

and those are just my opinions Sniper. In fact, you've kind of inspired me to listen to Frances the Mute again, I haven't in ages, I'll give it another shot.
