Interested in hearing the demos, but this album is still everything I ever wanted from Foxing (or any band in this scene).

on their Patreon only as far as I know. Idk I love directly supporting the band but I feel like we’re on the same wavelength with this record sowing. It’s very interesting listening to some of these demos but only spend the 7.50 if ya got it to spare and really wanna hear rough outlines of what these songs would eventually be. Looks Like Nothing develops into a similar wall of noise but there’s not really any guitar parts that I can make out, where with the album version it’s clearly the main focus. I’ll def be listening to the rest.
But of the three I listened to so far, the Dead Cat one is fun but I can see why they cut it in half, I don’t see any way for the second half to fit on the album organically. Gratitude is very similar instrumentally but Conor’s vocals and lyrics are far better on the record. I listened to a pair of scrapped songs and they’re good, so im really curious to see if they work them into something more developed if we get another record.
tldr: they’re ROUGH, but it is very cool to see how these ideas developed into fully fledged songs

i way prefer the gratitude demo honestly lol, its much less conventional vocally and more chaotic in the sense that conor is basically cannibalized the whole song the wsy the last minute happens, and tbh its what i always wanted out of the song haha. always thought the actual hook was shoehorned
and idk how rough they really are comparatively when this album already sounds like it was recorded on a 4 channel mixer, they if anything commit to that aesthetic better for me. really they're just more unhinged and further let off the leash

Loving the Sun/Broadcast are better than a significant amount of what's on this album to me

def agree on loving, absolutely insane to me that it didnt make the cut here
|

if you dig back into the earlier demos there's Death, Love, Sativa from Dealer era which is legit top 5 Foxing, they're insane with some of the stuff they leave off

huh I think its interesting that they move lyrics around line by line sometimes. the gratitude demo had the Paul and Saul in Damascus line and that demo has the wipe that sleep from your eyes line from Won’t Drown.
It sounds stupid typing it out like that but I dunno, that’s something that literally never occurred to me

Oh that demo is from 2023, well then just using placeholder lines? I guess it’s not exactly the most unique line ever but I would think it’s uncommon enough to not wanna use twice? idk what my point even is right now.

Never heard it before a few mins ago and yeah that was really good. Idk if I’d say it’s one of their best songs but I liked it more than plenty of tracks that did make the cut on Dealer. I’m not the best person to talk on that tho, Dealer has always been my least favorite despite having a few really great highlights.
I’d love it if they put some of these tracks on streaming. Just a little demos ep or something.

Jealous of ya'll hearing these allegedly amazing demos
But tbh I have never been into demos much, so unless they were to finish the tracks and drop them as some sort of Foxing (Expanded) release then I don't think they'd get much replayability for me.

if you can find Death, Love, Sativa you should check it out. It sounds closer to finished than all of the demos for this record. It could’ve been on Dealer and I don’t think it would’ve stuck out, great track for sure.
Good god am I glad I waited to hear the record before subbing tho, hearing some of these tracks like this… the album just would not have hit as hard. Forever Damned (Greyhound) sounds great, but damn Barking just feels like a completely different track without dat bassline
It’s honestly kinda insane that they sat on Greyhound for almost a year and half. I know a lot more work went into it but it sounds shockingly good as a demo.

yeah barking is def one that came together better in the final form, same with spit for me (so the songs most reliant on bass). think forever damned is awesome tho, the open second verse makes the tidal wave hit like a mf
biggest surprise for me was prob hell 99 since i dont like the album version but the different melody and structure both really do it for me. the way the drums split from time with eric at the very end goes absurdly hard, as does the breakdown after the trippy atmo break

And all I ever really wanted it to feel like
Has departed from my life
The memory of desire
Feels foreign in my mind
I blend the lows and the highs
Until they all become one lie
Thank you, you're too kind
