Go look at The Contortionist's virility compared to VoM Red Fur and come back to this point

Where's The Contortionist's "Return to Earth" at? 2.5M after 5 years?

i mean sumerian has a wider distribution network lol but the enthusiasm around vom in most circles i have travelled has significantly significantly decreased from what it once was, to the point that i even know matriarch/false idol fans who arent looking forward to this new one

the first two singles were so meh. completely getting rid of the melodic stuff for uninspired retreads.

Also aren't most videos gonna get like 80% of their views in the first week lmao

People hated Matriarch back when it released, still probably their best album to date. The hate for that album was legendary.

Just like people hated Juggernaut, and that album still is one of their best IMO.

i think matriarch is pretty good but it is kind of a diet periphery album so i get why ppl that dont like this band are super harsh on it

All I'm saying is the support for VoM in their transitions have been way more receptive than those who have decried it.

can't speak on vom or ia but idk periphery has headlined some of the bigger venues in my area multiple times now while the contortionist hasn't dropped an album in six years and is out here performing exoplanet in full at what seem to be mostly bars (or the venues they hit in my area are)

love me some contortionist but its clear they are not on the same plane of relevance anymore

I knew they were grasping at straws when I heard their cover of 1979, even though I loved it

vom were just such a weird example for this because theyve arguably taken bigger jumps in sound between their albums than ia have, which is not "playing it safe" even tho i like every ia album more than every vom album

also like yea hyperbole but vom are very clearly not where they once were and are also clawing their way back for relevance after a 6 year gap between albums where ia are currently blowing up beyond what they ever expected to the point that its almost overwhelming them lmao. part of it is vom had to scrap a whole album which is gonna take your name out of the spotlight for a while but i have seen enough active unenthusiasm about that band to know they arent just being graciously lapped up either lol
