I’ve been trying to listen to this album for the last couple of months but I just can’t get into this even though I really want to. Its just that I hate the fact that I love bands like letlive., the blood brothers, will haven and drive like jehu but I don’t understand why this gets a lot of hype. I just need someone to tell what I’m missing or if it’s possible to let this grow on me

i mean this is high key their worst album so bump material control worship and the color eps then you’ll get it

Ok look, I’ve also tried listening to those other albums/eps you told me to for a long while but I also find them boring. Even if I can’t get into this band, I can’t get into at the drive in as well. I just don’t understand why they’re considered as the pinnacle of post-hardcore even though I want to comprehend how amazing they are. I don’t know why letlive. are compared to them. But after all, it just makes me think that I might not be a fan of the post-hardcore genre

It was also a brief part of history/that moment in the scene to allow full appreciation for this album and these type of bands at the time.

That 90's sheen of misogyny and victimhood in the lyrics may not have aged so well but this still bangs so relentlessly. Siberian Kiss is still one of my favorite songs. THE CHORUS

its an impulsive record, a lot of us, male or female regardless, tend to hate the person who broke our hearts fresh after a breakup. we think terrible thoughts and do terrible things. daryl simply decided to record these thoughts and actions and this is what we got. i think it is utter perfection. i guess now in our pc world this is misogynistic. hell even in a non pc world some lyrics on here are brutal but for those who have endued this pain these are the things you say and think. i think it is a truly fascinating record, even though daryl now like everyone else, says it is a disgusting abomination of misogynist rhetoric, i think it is a highly necessary piece of art. a real life look into what we all wish we could say to our respective ex

Eh, speak for yourself. I mean, I've participated in misogyny and sexism like every man has in some form or another in his life, and girls have ripped my heart tf out of my chest a few times in my days but NEVER have I ever thought to myself: "You whore! You fucking bitch! SLUT! I hate you!! dhejfadgk" Even if it's a common response to a situation like that, it's shitty. Not to say I've never been shitty, I just haven't been shitty like that. The record is definitely misogynist entirely without PC culture. But the record still fucking SLAPS too.
lol Like Eminem. You can't say his first records are BAD but to a point, even as good as they are, it's like "umm...WOW this guy sure hates women." But that's just the 90's and 2000's period. Music was chock full of that shit. It's not a good thing, and it's worth calling attention to, but I'm not saying the music can't be enjoyed in spite of that.

story was Daryl almost died from his crohn's and his girlfriend broke up with him when he was still in the hospital recovering. i'd be pissed off at that too guessing from the lyrics he was cheated on too. guy had no luck with women apparently. glad he's doing better tho.

and yea. probably best breakup record ever imo. i know personally in the heat of the moment i've been this angry and disillusioned with relationships. Daryl just put it out there and poured his heart out on a record. lyrics didn't age all that well, pc culture or not. doesn't mean i enjoy the record any less.

As far as breakup records, this one is a close second to Jane Doe for me.

Easily one of the best breakup albums. I'd put "Satori" from I the Mighty up there too.

art doesn't have to relatable, likeable or even to some degree acceptable; sometimes it can be even more significant because of that

Not saying it HAS to be anything. But I can feel how I feel. And vice versa. Art that I don't like has every right to exist. But even then, this is certainly not art I don't like. Quite the opposite. I absolutely love the record while acknowledging its problematic aspects.
