I’m a bit of an in-betweener on the “separating art from artist” debate. I don’t think you’re a bad person if you listen to bad peoples music. But if you can do it without supporting them financially that’s better. So yeah, I’m cool with peeps like r kelly getting taken off streaming sites and basically being ousted from the market. Pirate that POS.

art v artist is a tricky thing and very much a can of worms that is bigger than any one thread could hope to cover. I mean, if I had to choose one band that probably represents sputnik best, it would probably be Brand New from the amount they get talked about on here lol I can usually separate art from artists, but I don't really seek out stuff from artists I haven't engaged with previously if I know they are pieces of shit and they are still alive. I like Death of the Author a lot and I think suppressing art is kind of a fool's errand, but definitely agree that pirating said art is the best course of action. I think deleting problematic artists from the Spotify-curated playlists/from their radio suggestions would be the best course of action, but I doubt that would ever happen.

@odal pretty much agree across the board

I’ve also been fortunate to not really have any artists that I’m really attached to turn out to be monsters tho 😂

Comparing Kendrick to Tool might be the whitest thing I have read this year

Implying that you are from the U.S. I'm not even white from your point of view....OK OK I'm a fucking Latino. I say it.

Hm, the pulling his music bit just makes me think of his micheal Jackson line from mortal man. Like there's ways you could argue MJ didn't do anything but the way Kendrick phrases it leaves a lot to be desired and makes me think despite all the areas he's developed mentally there's still some areas he's really neglected.

Agreed, XXX was one of the best songs on Damn because of his feature. Funny too, because I've never been a big U2 fan

The Sputnik community has preferred metal over hip hop. No surprise there, even if the interest of the latter genre has grown in this site.
