I was gonna say that. Like I agree with what Johnny said but I think in most scenarios people call things pretentious because it's a convenient way to insult something they don't like and make it look like there's something the artists are actually doing wrong instead of a subjective gripe

i can understand where you are coming from, but this a bit hyperbolic. you can call art pretentious without it being a knee jerk reactionary response. and i can understand that if someone doesnt communicate their specific gripes, it makes it seem as if they are having a knee jert reactionary response.
i just think its a bit silly if someone goes 'i find this pretentious' and someone elses response is 'wow knee jerk much, you must not have any substantive criticism'.
maybe they just dont feel like explaining themselves? maybe theyre lazy? maybe theyre shitposting
