The only issue I can think to sympathize with is that the guitars aren't loud enough compared to other releases but this IS a vocal centric record.

After so many straight listens of a 1,5 hour record I finally 5'd it. I I never want to skip only one song from the whole record.

The mastering is really thin and treble high and it does sound a bit overcompressed at times. Their performance is amazing, and so are the songs but I don't think Bottrill was the right man for the job (and whoever mastered it later).

If you don't hear it put it against Swallow the Sun's latest and you'll notice the difference.

This might be my favorite Mastodon at this point. Can’t stop listening to it.

it's thin and compressed because Mastodon are a pop band now and their music's mostly listened to on cell phone and laptop speakers. also the panning is way more centered on this than previous albums. gotta make it sound consistent across all platforms.
